An Electric Quad Bike is useful for helping your farm work, but it cannot do everything. Quad bike injuries can be avoided by following safety advice.
What is a Quad bike?
Quad bikes are motorised sit-astride machines powered by four low-pressure tires on unpaved roads. The seat can be straddled and has handlebars that allow for steering control.
One person can only operate these vehicles.
Although quad bikes can handle various terrain types, including steep slopes and hills, they are not designed to do it all. Quad Bikes for Sale can quickly become unstable if used beyond their safe operating limits.
Common hazards
Quad bikes can cause severe and fatal injuries:
- Being thrown from a vehicle that is overturned or lost control of
- Collisions with other vehicles or structures
- Being trapped/asphyxiated by an upside-down machine
- Quad bikes causing pedestrians to be run over or struck by them
Other factors, such as: can also cause accidents and injuries.
- a lack of operator experience and formal training;
- inadequate head protection;
- excessive speed;
- the age of the operator;
- carrying a passenger;
- unbalanced loads and overloading;
- tipping on a bank or ditch, rut or bump;
- combining other factors such as poor ground conditions or load conditions, and loss of control on steep slopes, which can lead to a loss of control;
- towing heavy loads using unbraked equipment;
- Poor maintenance of your vehicles, such as bad brakes or low tire pressures.
Protective equipment for the personal
You can only protect yourself by wearing what you have on your quad bike. Head protection is essential.
When riding a quad bike, you should always use a helmet. Head injuries have been a significant cause of quad bike deaths. Helmets would have almost certainly prevented many of these fatalities.
Clothing
Make sure you have protective clothing that covers your legs and arms. Gloves are great for protection. Handlebar muffs in colder weather can keep your hands warm and help you control the quad.
ROPS stands for Roll-over Protective Structures
125 Quad Bikes should not be equipped with roll-over protective devices (ROPS, crush protection devices).
Research shows that they can increase injury risk in the event of an accident. They may prevent the operator from separating from the machine or strike the operator if it turns.
It would be best not to use lap straps or seat restraints on your quad as they restrict the rider’s ability to move around the quad and keep it balanced. Without a roll cage or full cab, lap straps and seat restraints could prove to be fatal.
Quad bikes for children and families
Quad bikes aren’t toys, and many quad bikes have caused fatalities and severe injuries to children.
Only qualified, adequately trained individuals within the recommended age range should be permitted to ride a quad. They must also wear the proper helmet and be supervised appropriately.
Quad bikes are not allowed to transport passengers, even children.
Parking
If you must park on a slope or other steep terrain, park directly across it.
Machines that have been loaded with heavy loads and have not had their brakes maintained properly have caused accidents.
Safety tips
Make sure your quad bikes are in safe and proper condition.
Take care when riding on steep terrain and in rough terrain. The bike’s capabilities should not be exceeded.
Do not do any tasks that could interfere with safe riding. Keep both hands on your bike.
